The GCRC stands for Gardiners Creek Regional Collaboration.

The City of Stonnington,  in 2022 when initially working on the KooyongKoot Masterplan, realised that partnerships across the Gardiners Creek (KooyongKoot) catchment were needed to plan and deliver projects on a catchment-scale to meet the plans objectives.

Local communities benefit through improved green spaces (with more diverse biodiversity), better environmental health (such as improved water quality and vegetation), enhanced recreational opportunities (which align with improved biodiversity), and increased community engagement in environmental conservation efforts through greater opportunities to get involved in projects within the catchment.

And last, but not least, the collaboration offers greater opportunities for local community members to make their voices heard and to advocate for change within the catchment.

Community members can get involved by participating in local volunteering events, community consultations (when opportunities arise), and in educational sessions.

Additionally, they can engage in advocacy efforts or provide feedback on planning processes which are generally managed through local Government but will be supported through the collaboration.

A good first step is to go to https://kka.org to find out how to engage in projects on the waterway.

  • The collaboration is currently working on the development of it’s Catchment-scale Strategic Plan, which will identify key areas of focus which will result in the most impact to the system as a whole.
  •
  • Issues such as pollution, water quality degradation, loss of biodiversity, invasive species, and the impacts of urbanisation on the creek’s ecosystem are all key themes of focus and discussion at this stage.

Although this is yet to be determined it is likely that success will be measured by monitoring its delivery of key projects/outomes set out in its Catchment-scale Strategic Plan.

Examples include improvements in water quality, the health of local ecosystems, community participation, and the completion of planned infrastructure and environmental projects.

Regular monitoring and evaluation will be needed as part of this process.

Yes, feedback is encouraged through the Contact Us page.

There will be opportunities for public consultations or community engagement as projects develop within the catchment.

As a community member, the best way to get involved and to have your voice heard is to go through the KKA, you can find out more here https://kka.org.au
